Transpose Transpose

FAQ

Is Transpose free?

Yes. Transpose lets you change pitch and speed and use loops for as many songs as you like, without an account.

You can also use the complete Studio toolkit on three songs at a time, without an account or expiry date. A subscription or Lifetime gives you Studio for unlimited songs.

See What can you do with Studio?.

What is a Studio song?

A song you open in Studio gets extra tools such as clips, Stem Mix and chord recognition. You can choose three songs at a time, without an account or expiry date.

You can change your selection later. See Using Studio for how to choose and replace a song.

When should I use Compact or Side?

Open Transpose as a small window or as a side panel beside the website. The side panel stays visible while you use the website. Both can control a Studio song.

See the views and their controls in Window and side panel.

Do I need an account?

Not to use Transpose or open three songs in Studio. Sign in with Google to save practice settings, use lists, share settings or manage your Studio purchase. Use the same account on other devices.

There is no separate Transpose password; a separate email and password login is not supported. Signing in does not automatically save changes: choose Save to keep them.

See Sign in.

Can I use Transpose on multiple devices?

Yes. Sign in on the other computer with the same Google account to find your saved library and use the same chosen Studio songs. If you bought unlimited Studio, you do not need to pay again.

Recent, local files, prepared stems and analysis data are not transferred. Select local files again on the other computer.

See Save on other devices.

Which devices and browsers does Transpose support?

Transpose works on desktop and laptop computers with Chrome, Edge or Brave, with both Compact and Side.

In Opera, Vivaldi and Yandex, only Compact is available. The Side button and Studio controls are unavailable there.

Firefox, Safari and browsers based on them are not supported. Mobile phones and tablets running Android, iOS or iPadOS are also unsupported.

How does Transpose handle my data?

Audio processing, music analysis and Stem Mix run on your device. Recent and most settings are stored locally. For the three Studio songs, the server stores technical codes and replacement information without needing your name or email address.

When you sign in, account details, saved practice settings and shared links can be stored online. We use limited usage statistics. The website and Transpose Player can also use analytics, embeds and advertising.

Read the complete privacy policy.

Can I use my own audio or video file?

Yes, with Transpose Player. Select a file on your computer or drop it into Player. The file is not uploaded.

See Transpose Player.

Can I save the adjusted sound as an audio file?

No. Transpose is made for practice during playback and does not export adjusted audio, recordings or separated stems. Save stores your practice settings, not the music itself.

Can I use Transpose with Chromecast?

Transpose has no dedicated Chromecast integration. Casting can only work when you share the entire desktop or browser tab together with its processed sound. The result depends on the browser, casting method and receiving device.

Why do some sites need extra permission?

Transpose needs permission to find and control the player on a page. An embedded video can require permission for both the page and the player website.

Choose Allow access and confirm the browser prompt. You can revoke access later under Settings → Data and reset → Revoke permissions.

Transpose cannot find my music

Try these steps in order:

  1. Open the song on its own player page and start playback.
  2. Allow access if Transpose asks.
  3. Click the Transpose icon in the browser toolbar again.
  4. Refresh the page and reopen Transpose.
  5. Temporarily disable other extensions that change audio or video.
  6. Use Tab Audio if a direct connection does not work.

See the Tab Audio controls.

Spotify Web Player is not working

Open Spotify at open.spotify.com and check where it is playing. If a phone, speaker or another computer is selected, the sound is not coming from the browser tab and Transpose cannot process it.

Select This web browser in Spotify, use one playing Spotify tab, start the song and reopen Transpose. Allow access if asked. If a direct connection does not work, try Tab Audio.

Message: “No playable media”

Transpose cannot find a usable player on the current page. Open a page with audio or video, start playback and reopen Transpose. Prefer the media's own player page over an embedded preview.

If the website uses a non-standard or protected player, try Tab Audio.

Message: “Activation required”

Choose Allow access if the website needs new permission and confirm the browser prompt.

Already allowed access but asked to activate from the toolbar? Click the Transpose icon in the browser toolbar to reconnect the current tab. Close and reopen Compact or Side, then refresh the page if that does not help.

Message: “Start playback”

Transpose found a player, but the music is not playing yet or the connection became stale after the page changed. Start playback on the website. Reopen Transpose or refresh the page if needed.

Message: “Pitch not available”

Transpose can hear audio but cannot attach pitch processing directly to the player. Choose Tab Audio, confirm the browser prompt and use the website's playback controls when needed.

Other audio, video or recording extensions can interfere. Temporarily disable them if Tab Audio does not start.

When should I use Tab Audio?

Use Tab Audio when Transpose cannot process a website's audio directly. Tab Audio uses all sound from the current browser tab.

You can adjust pitch and sound, but playback and seeking may need to be controlled on the website. Stem Mix is unavailable in Tab Audio. Stop the mode from the capture card or Settings → Tab Audio.

See the complete Tab Audio controls.

The audio stutters, clicks or sounds distorted

Close heavy tabs and applications, temporarily disable other audio extensions and refresh the music page. Switch extra effects off one at a time to find which combination causes the problem. Restart your browser if it continues.

Check the sample rate of the device you use to listen. If it is set to 96,000 or 192,000 Hz, change it to 48,000 Hz (48 kHz), then reload the music page.

Studio Side

Temporarily turn off Stem Mix, or disable Music analysis (chords, key, tempo and beats) in Settings. This helps you check whether stem processing or analysis is putting too much load on your device.

With Stem Mix, an unprepared section can temporarily play as the original mix. Let that section play so Transpose can process it.

audio quality stutter distortion performance

Why does the audio trail the video?

Audio effects need processing time. Noticeable delay depends on the website, your device, the selected effects and how Transpose connects to the player.

If the audio also stutters, check your output device’s sample rate.

Studio

For an active Studio song, try Settings → Audio → Low Latency. This prioritizes a quicker response over some sound quality. Low Latency is unavailable while Formant has been adjusted.

How do I enable WebGPU in Chrome?
  1. Enter chrome://settings/system in Chrome’s address bar.
  2. Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
  3. Restart Chrome using Relaunch, then reopen your music page and Transpose.
  4. Enter chrome://gpu in the address bar. Under Graphics Feature Status, check that WebGPU shows Hardware accelerated.

If WebGPU is still unavailable, update Chrome and your graphics driver. See Chrome’s WebGPU troubleshooting instructions.

WebGPU Chrome graphics acceleration GPU Stem Mix music analysis

Why is Stem Mix unavailable?

Stem Mix needs an active Studio song, a direct audio connection and a device with WebGPU. The required tools are installed when you use Stem Mix. Stem Mix is disabled in Tab Audio. Varispeed also switches Stem Mix off. Turn Varispeed off, then enable Stem Mix again. Prepared stems and mix choices are retained.

If Stem Mix is active but you temporarily hear the original mix, the current section may still be processing. See Stem Mix.

See how to enable WebGPU in Chrome.

Stem Mix WebGPU unavailable Tab Audio

Why can I still hear other parts when using Solo or Mute in Stem Mix?

Stem Mix does not always separate parts completely. With Solo, you may still hear traces of other instruments; with Mute, the muted vocals or instrument may remain faintly audible. This depends on the recording and how the parts overlap.

The model is chosen to balance audio quality, processing speed and the load on your device. This lets Transpose process music during playback, but the separation is not always completely clean.

Stem Mix stems split Solo Mute vocals separation bleed leakage

Why don’t I see chords, beats or tempo?

The waveform can be built without extra analysis tools. Chords, key, beats and tempo estimates require you to install music analysis first. They also require WebGPU.

Play the song so Transpose can process the music. Results appear progressively and can vary by recording. See Install music analysis.

See how to enable WebGPU in Chrome.

Why is a song missing from Recent?

Check Settings → Remember changes. With Do not save, new songs are not added to Recent.

Recent belongs to one device and browser profile. Guest or private mode, clearing browser data, a cleanup tool or reinstalling the extension can remove local history. Find account-saved songs under Library → Saved after signing in.

Recent history missing browser data

My saved settings are missing
  1. Check that you are signed in with the same Google account you used when saving.
  2. Open Library → Saved and find the right practice version. One song can have several saved versions.
  3. Did you make changes afterwards? They are only kept in the saved version when you choose Save → Update existing again.

If the song was only in Recent, its settings were stored locally. That history does not transfer to another computer and can disappear when browser data is cleared or the extension is reinstalled.

Replacing a Studio song does not delete its saved version. See Save and Library.

saved settings missing lost restore account version

Why can’t I open a saved song in Studio?

A saved practice version does not automatically give that song access to Studio tools. Open the song in Studio and, if needed, choose which of your three songs to replace. Unlimited Studio does not require replacing a song.

Your saved version is retained. See Replace a Studio song.

Why can’t I save or share a song?

Save and Share use a Google account and start from a song you can use in Studio. Check that you are signed in and that the song is one of your three active Studio songs, or that you have unlimited Studio.

A local music file is not included in a save or shared link. See Save and Share.

I paid, but Studio is unavailable

Check which Google account you are signed in with under Settings → Account / Studio. Use the account you bought Studio with, especially if you use several Google accounts.

Check that payment completed and that your access is still valid. Reopen Transpose and check your access under Account / Studio.

Does only one song fail while unlimited Studio is shown as available? Check the message for that song. Studio access does not resolve a connection problem with the music player.
