Sometimes you install Transpose, open a song, and… nothing happens.
Don’t worry — in most cases, the fix is quick. Here’s how to get Transpose working again.
1. Refresh the Page
- After installing or updating the extension, a refresh is required.
- On YouTube, hit
F5or the reload button. - This loads the content script that connects Transpose to the media player.
2. Check Permissions
Transpose needs access to the site you’re on:
- Right-click the extension icon → Manage Extensions.
- Scroll to Site Access.
- Make sure it’s set to On all sites or at least the sites you need (e.g.
youtube.com).
🎯 If you see no media detected, missing permissions is often the cause.
3. Conflicts with Other Extensions
Other media extensions can block or override Transpose.
Try disabling:
- Ad blockers that interfere with the player.
- Other “media controller” extensions.
- Test by opening an Incognito Window (with only Transpose enabled).
4. Look for the Media Element
Transpose connects to the native HTML5 player. If a site hides or replaces it, detection may fail.
- On YouTube, use the official player — embeds and iframes may behave differently.
- On Spotify Web, make sure playback has started before opening Transpose.
5. Restart Chrome
Sometimes background scripts fail to register properly.
- Close all Chrome windows completely.
- Restart Chrome and try again.
6. Reinstall the Extension
If all else fails:
- Remove Transpose: Right-click → Remove from Chrome.
- Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
- Refresh the page.
