Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy

The Transpose extension, including Studio and Side, does not serve ads. Audio processing runs on your device, where most settings are also stored. The website, including Transpose Player, may show ads, as described below. If you sign in to save songs or use other account features, we store the account and service data needed to provide those features in Firebase. If you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal data unless retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or backup purposes. Your email will never be sold or shared for advertising, and we’ll only send newsletters if you’ve given us permission.

Summary of our privacy commitments

We do not sell your account information or music settings. We use personal data only as needed to provide the Service, process subscriptions, respond to support requests, maintain security, and improve the product as described in this Policy.

Data we collect

Transpose and Studio without sign-in

  • We do not intentionally collect directly identifying personal data for the free core functionality of the extension.
  • Audio processing, music analysis and Stem Mix run on your device. Audio segments, prepared stems and analysis results may be stored locally for these features; they are not uploaded to our servers.
  • These local caches may be stored in your browser under the website where you use Transpose. You can clear them using Transpose’s cache settings for that site or by clearing the relevant site data in your browser.
  • Settings and song history are stored locally or in your personal synced browser settings using Chrome’s storage API. Song history includes titles and source URLs of media used with Transpose so you can return to previous songs and practice settings. This is limited to media used with Transpose; we do not keep a general record of the websites you visit.
  • Limited usage analytics are collected via Google Analytics to understand feature usage and performance, using a random identifier stored on your device across sessions. These statistics do not include your browsing history, audio, video or full music-page URLs.
  • If you use the three free Studio song slots, we store a recovery code, song codes, source type and activation or replacement information. This keeps track of your Studio access and song replacements. These requests do not include song titles or full source URLs.

Support-related information is collected only if you contact us, and payment-related information is processed only if you purchase paid Studio access.

Account features (Google sign-in required)

  • Account information - Google account identifier, display name, and email address (via Firebase Authentication). Stored in Firebase for as long as needed to provide the Service, unless deletion, anonymization, or retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or backup purposes.
  • Saved songs and settings - saving stores song titles, source URLs, lists and practice settings such as markers, clips and effects in your account for use across devices. Active Studio songs can also be linked and added to your account when you sign in or activate them while signed in. Local audio files and prepared stems are not included in cloud saves.
  • Shared links - creating a share stores a separate snapshot of the song title, source URL and practice settings, linked to your account. Anyone with the link can access and forward it. Removing a saved song from your library does not remove its shared snapshots; contact us to request their deletion.
  • Marketing consent - if you opt in, your email address is used for newsletters only. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Website and Transpose Player

  • The website uses Google Analytics for page visits and interactions. Hosting and other service providers receive technical request information such as IP address and browser information.
  • Website advertisements may be served by Google AdSense and its partners. They may use IP addresses, cookies or similar identifiers and page or ad interactions for ad delivery, measurement and, depending on consent and settings, personalized advertising. The extension’s audio and saved practice settings are not supplied to advertisers. See how Google uses information from partner sites.
  • Opening YouTube, Vimeo or SoundCloud in Player connects to that provider, which may process viewing information and use cookies under its own privacy policy: YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud.
  • Local files opened in Player are played on your device and are not uploaded to us. With your permission, the browser may remember a file handle for reopening. The Player webpage’s analytics and advertising are separate from this local audio processing.

When you contact us for support

  • When you submit a support request via our contact form or by email, we collect your name, email address, and the information you provide to us. This may include technical details such as your operating system, browser version, extension version, and the specific issue you are facing.
  • If you are signed in, we may also use your email address, account status, subscription or trial status, and relevant extension state to identify your account and troubleshoot the issue you contacted us about.
  • This information is used to provide support, troubleshoot account or settings issues, and improve our service.
  • Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to handle your request, maintain support history, prevent abuse, and improve the Service. You can request deletion of your support data by contacting us at [email protected], subject to any legal or legitimate retention obligations.

Data Processing and Compliance

Transpose (operated by Transpose Studio B.V.) is an independent data controller under GDPR.

For accounts, limited personal data (like email, saved song settings and subscription info) is processed to provide account features and payments. This happens under GDPR-compliant agreements with our subprocessors, such as Firebase (Google) and Paddle.

Transpose’s use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Third-party processors and service providers

We use third-party providers where needed to operate the Service. Depending on your use of the Service, these may process limited personal data on our behalf or under their own role as independent provider:

  • Analytics - Google Analytics, for usage statistics.
  • Website advertising - Google AdSense and its advertising partners, as described above.
  • Authentication and hosting - Google Firebase, for authentication, account-related storage, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Payments - Paddle.com, as Merchant of Record for subscriptions, invoicing, taxes, and payment processing.
  • Support and communications - email and support tooling used to receive, manage, and respond to support requests and service-related communications.

We select providers that are appropriate for the service they perform and rely on contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards where applicable. Our providers operate internationally, so data may be processed outside your country of residence.

Payments & communications

Studio subscriptions and Lifetime purchases are processed by Paddle.com as Merchant of Record. Paddle handles VAT, invoicing, and payment security under their own Privacy Policy. Paddle may send you subscription-related emails such as receipts, renewal reminders, failed payment notices, and recovery prompts, as part of their Retain functionality. These communications are transactional, not marketing.

Permissions we request

The extension installs with limited browser permissions needed for its core interface and active-tab controls. Additional site access is requested only when needed for a specific site or feature.

Permissions are requested only when required for functionality:

  • ActiveTab – connect to and control media playback on the active tab.
  • ContextMenus – provide shortcuts to settings and support in the extension icon’s right-click menu.
  • Offscreen – run local music analysis and Stem Mix processing independently of the visible popup or side panel.
  • Scripting – inject the extension logic needed to connect to supported media players on pages you choose to use with Transpose.
  • Storage – store settings, history and extension state locally or through your browser’s sync storage.
  • Sidepanel – open Studio in the side panel next to the site content.
  • Host permissions (optional) – requested only for sites you choose to use with Transpose, including supported dynamic media sites and embedded players.
  • TabCapture (optional) – capture tab audio for supported audio processing, analysis and Stem Mix. In some cases, Chrome may reload or reopen the current tab once so Tab Capture can start correctly.

Cookies

  • Extension: Does not set or use cookies.
  • Website (transpose.video), including Player: May use cookies and similar storage for sign-in, preferences, analytics, advertisements and embedded media. Where consent or privacy choices are presented, you can use them to manage these uses. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings.

Third-party services

We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, YouTube, Spotify, Deezer, or any other third party whose services may be accessed through the extension.

Your rights

This policy applies to users worldwide. Depending on the laws applicable to you, including GDPR in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
  • Restrict or object to its processing.
  • Request data portability.
  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, and opt out of targeted advertising or data sale/sharing where applicable law provides these rights.
  • File a complaint with your Data Protection Authority.

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Transpose browser extension and the website transpose.video (together the “Service”), provided by Transpose Studio B.V., trading as Transpose (“we”, “us”, “our”).

By installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Service Description

Transpose lets you adjust pitch, playback speed, and loop sections of online videos and audio in real time, free for unlimited songs. The free version works out of the box for YouTube. Certain websites, including embedded YouTube videos, Spotify, Deezer, and other dynamic media platforms, require optional host permissions to connect to the HTML media element. If no media element can be found, TabCapture (audio only) may be used as a fallback for pitch shifting.
Studio adds tools such as clips, markers, effects, music analysis and Stem Mix, and is included for three active songs without sign-in. Song replacement rules are shown in the interface. Paid Studio access lets you use Studio for more songs. Saving and creating shared links require Google sign-in via Firebase Authentication.

Music analysis and Stem Mix run locally and may require model installation and a compatible device. Analysis results are estimates, and separation quality depends on the recording. Cloud saves contain song information and settings, not the audio itself.

Transpose Player is part of the website and plays supported embedded media and local files. The website, including Player, may show advertisements; the extension and Studio do not.

1.1 Platform availability and compatibility.

The Service relies on third-party sites and players that may change their code, policies, or access rules at any time. Compatibility with third-party platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, and other services may change or break over time due to technical, legal, policy, browser, or platform changes outside our control. We do not guarantee continued support for any specific third-party service. If a platform opts out, blocks integrations, changes its technical setup, or it becomes otherwise impossible to connect, some or all features may stop working or may need to be changed, suspended, or removed. Device, browser, or OS limitations may also prevent the Service from functioning on certain setups.

1.2 Service availability

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times. Temporary outages, bugs, performance issues, or feature failures may occur.

1.3 Service changes

We may modify, suspend, replace, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time, including to fix bugs, improve security, comply with legal requirements, or respond to third-party platform changes.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old or have parental consent to use the Service.

3. Accounts & Authentication

Transpose and the three active Studio songs do not require sign-in. Saving, creating shared links and managing paid Studio access require login with Google. We store the account and service data needed to provide those features in Firebase for as long as needed to operate the Service, unless deletion, anonymization, or retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or backup purposes. Your Google account information is processed according to Google’s Privacy Policy.

Pages on transpose.video may detect whether the extension is installed. For Player, sign-in, trial, upgrade, support, and account flows, our site may also communicate with the extension to coordinate those flows.

4. Payments & Subscriptions

Payments for Studio subscriptions and Lifetime purchases are processed by Paddle.com as Merchant of Record (handles VAT, invoicing, and payment security). Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled.

Displayed prices may vary by country, currency, tax treatment, and promotional eligibility. The final price is shown at checkout.

We may change prices from time to time. Any price change applies immediately to new purchases and only from a future renewal date for existing subscriptions, after prior notice.

Refund Policy: Except where required by applicable law, purchases are non-refundable. Refunds are not provided solely because a third-party platform restricts, blocks, or changes the technical capability required for specific features, or because the Service is incompatible with a particular device, browser, or operating system, except where required by applicable law.

For consumers in the EU/EEA, mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected. Where digital services are supplied immediately at your request, your statutory right of withdrawal may be lost to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Lifetime access means access for the lifetime of the product/service, not a guarantee of perpetual availability of any specific feature, integration, website, or third-party platform.

5. Browser Permissions

The Extension may request:

  • ActiveTab – Control media playback on the current tab.
  • ContextMenus – Provide shortcuts to settings and support in the extension icon’s right-click menu.
  • Offscreen – Run local music analysis and Stem Mix processing independently of the visible popup or side panel.
  • Scripting – Inject the extension logic needed to connect to supported media players on pages you choose to use with the Service.

Permissions are requested only when required for functionality.

6. Data Usage & Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect limited usage analytics for performance monitoring and feature improvement. Extension usage statistics do not include browsing history, audio, video or full music-page URLs. Website analytics, advertising and embedded media are described separately in the Privacy Policy above.

7. License

Paid Studio access grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license for personal use by a single individual. You agree not to share your account or subscription with others.

8. Acceptable Use

You may not:

  • Use the Service to infringe copyrights or violate laws.
  • Reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service.

Shared links provide access to song information and practice settings, not ownership of or rights to the underlying music. Share only information you are entitled to share.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for temporary unavailability, bugs, third-party failures, or loss of data. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is not permitted by applicable law.

11. Changes to These Terms and Policies

We may update these Terms and Policies from time to time. If we make material changes, we will publish the updated version on this page and may provide additional notice where appropriate. Changes apply from the stated effective date and do not apply retroactively unless required by law.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by Dutch law, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer rights that apply in your country of residence.
